MG confirms Thai production readiness for MG URBAN 2026 ahead of June 17 launch

SAIC Motor-CP and MG Sales Thailand are preparing for the official launch of MG URBAN 2026 on June 17, 2026, confirming readiness across production, parts management, spare parts and quality control to support immediate first-batch delivery after launch.

The announcement strengthens MG confidence message for Thai EV buyers. MG URBAN 2026 is positioned as a locally assembled B-segment electric hatchback focused on urban use, practical cabin space and accessible EV ownership.

MG URBAN 2026 and the SAIC E3 platform

MG URBAN 2026 is a fully electric B-segment hatchback assembled in Thailand. It is built on the SAIC E3 Pure Electric Platform, using Cell-to-Body technology that integrates the battery pack into the main body structure.

The CTB layout helps lower the centre of gravity, improve stability and increase body rigidity. The car measures 4,395 mm long, 1,842 mm wide and 1,549 mm tall, with a 2,750 mm wheelbase and a 5.2-meter turning radius, giving it strong urban usability with generous cabin space.

The exterior follows the Gender Neutral Trendy design concept, with an illuminated logo, automatic LED headlights, daytime running lights, sporty rear spoiler, Union Jack-style LED taillights and an electric tailgate. The STANDARD grade uses 16-inch alloy wheels with Aero Wheel Covers, while MAX and ULTRA move to 17-inch alloy wheels.

Electric powertrain, batteries and variants

The STANDARD grade uses a front-wheel-drive permanent magnet synchronous motor producing 150 hp and 250 Nm, paired with a 42.8 kWh CATL LFP battery. Claimed range is 435 km on the NEDC cycle, with DC fast charging up to 82 kW and a 10-80% charge time of 28 minutes.

MAX and ULTRA increase power to 160 hp, while torque remains 250 Nm. They use a larger 53.9 kWh LFP battery with up to 530 km of NEDC range, DC fast charging up to 88 kW and a 10-80% charge time of 30 minutes. All variants include One Pedal driving, five drive modes and V2L output up to 3.3 kW.

The cabin features 984 mm rear legroom, soft-touch materials, a six-way power-adjustable driver seat, front ventilated seats on MAX and ULTRA, a 7-inch driver display, a 12.8-inch touchscreen on STANDARD and a 15.6-inch screen on MAX and ULTRA. The ULTRA grade uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chipset.

Other features include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, panoramic glass roof with electric sunshade, 256-color interactive ambient lighting, 480 liters of luggage space expanding to 1,266 liters, and Level 2 ADAS supported by six cameras, three radars and 12 sensors on MAX and ULTRA.

Thai plant, production and parts readiness

The factory image set shows end-of-line inspection, body assembly, production checks, vehicles lined up in the plant yard, charging areas and parts warehousing. MG says parts and spare-parts planning have been prepared alongside production to support immediate first-batch delivery after launch.

Bangkok Motorhaus Perspective

MG production-readiness message before the official launch is a smart move. It addresses one of the biggest pain points in the Thai EV market: uncertainty around delivery timing and parts readiness. Saying the first batch is ready immediately after launch gives buyers confidence before they even see the final price.

Product-wise, MG URBAN 2026 fits neatly between small city EVs and compact hatchbacks. Its key rivals include BYD Dolphin, GAC Aion UT and Geely EX2. The 2,750 mm wheelbase, 984 mm rear legroom and CTB platform give MG a strong cabin-space argument in a segment where many buyers worry about small-car practicality.

The ULTRA grade, with Snapdragon 8155, Smart Parking Assist, Remote Auto Parking, ventilated seats and a 15.6-inch screen, will be the technology showcase. The real test comes on June 17. If MG prices the entry version aggressively in the expected lower range and keeps the middle grade well equipped, MG URBAN could become a major urban EV contender.

Still, its character is clearly different from the original MG4. With front-wheel drive and a torsion-beam rear suspension, MG URBAN should focus more on comfort, easy driving and city use than rear-drive sportiness. After launch, MG must prove that delivery speed, parts flow and after-sales support match the confidence promised today.
