Toyota Europe has unveiled the all-new ninth-generation Hilux 2026 with a Multipath Strategy, offering a 2.8-liter diesel Mild Hybrid 48V and the first fully electric Hilux BEV with up to 10 years or 1,000,000 km battery...

All-new Toyota Hilux 2026 debuts in Europe with Hybrid 48V and BEV powertrains

Toyota Europe has officially unveiled the all-new ninth-generation Toyota Hilux 2026 under its Multipath Strategy, offering multiple powertrain choices on the road toward carbon neutrality. The European range focuses mainly on the Double Cab body style.

The major highlight is the first fully electric Hilux BEV in the model line history, sold alongside the diesel Mild Hybrid 48V that preserves the durability and heavy-duty character expected from Hilux.

Tough x Agile design and cabin upgrades

The 2026 Hilux uses a Tough x Agile design concept, combining work-truck toughness with more agile and premium road manners. The Hybrid 48V measures 5,320 mm long, 1,855-1,885 mm wide, 1,865 mm high and has a 3,085 mm wheelbase. The BEV has the same length and wheelbase, with a slightly lower height of 1,845 mm.

The exterior gains a body-color hexagonal mesh grille, a classic TOYOTA front script, slimmer headlamps and aerodynamically optimized alloy wheels. Inside, Land Cruiser influence is clear through a slimmer dashboard, up to a 12.3-inch digital instrument display, Toyota Smart Connect, wireless phone charging, a cool box, eight-way power seats and a redesigned steering wheel.

The Mild Hybrid model uses a 2.8-liter turbo-diesel engine with a 48V motor-generator, lithium-ion battery under the rear seat and DC-DC converter. Output is rated at 204 DIN hp and 500 Nm of torque. Toyota quotes 9.7-10.0 l/100 km fuel consumption and 254-262 g/km CO2 under WLTP.

The Hybrid 48V can carry more than 1,000 kg, tow up to 3,500 kg and wade through 700 mm of water. It also receives electric power steering in Europe for the first time, revised suspension tuning, additional spot welds and an electronic parking brake from Mid grade upward.

Toyota Hilux BEV 2026

The Hilux BEV uses permanent AWD with front and rear eAxles. The front motor produces 80 kW and 205 Nm, while the rear motor delivers 128 kW and 268 Nm. AWD torque distribution can vary from 100:0 to 0:100.

The water-cooled 59.2 kWh lithium-ion battery supports up to 257 km WLTP combined range and up to 380 km in the city cycle. DC fast charging at 125 kW or higher can take the battery from 10 to 80% in about 30 minutes, while 10 kW AC charging takes around 6.5 hours from 10 to 100%.

Despite being electric, the Hilux BEV retains 700 mm wading capability. It has 212 mm ground clearance, 29-degree approach angle, 24-degree departure angle, 20-degree breakover angle, 710-715 kg payload and 1,600 kg towing capacity. A de Dion rear axle helps package the electric drive hardware while reducing unsprung mass.

T-MATE safety and warranty

The new Hilux receives third-generation Toyota Safety Sense and ADAS features under the Toyota T-MATE umbrella, including Lane Tracing Assist, Pre-Collision System, Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control, Emergency Driving Stop System, Proactive Driving Assist, Blind Spot Monitor, Safe Exit Assist, Parking Support Brake and Rear Seat Reminder.

Toyota Relax can extend vehicle coverage to up to 10 years or 185,000 km when serviced at official Toyota dealers. For the BEV, the Battery Care Programme guarantees at least 70% battery state of health for up to 10 years or 1,000,000 km.

Bangkok Motorhaus Perspective

The all-new Hilux 2026 shows how carefully Toyota is applying its Multipath Strategy. Instead of forcing one single solution, it keeps diesel users covered with Mild Hybrid 48V while opening the door to fully electric pickup usage through the Hilux BEV.

The BEV version is especially interesting for B2B customers such as logistics, airport, forestry and low-emission-zone operations that need zero-emission driving without abandoning pickup utility.

The engineering story is just as important as the powertrain. Toyota claims 700 mm water wading for the BEV and uses a de Dion rear axle to package the motor while potentially improving ride quality. Those choices show Toyota is trying to preserve Hilux QDR DNA rather than simply converting the truck to electric.

The 257 km WLTP combined range may not sound dramatic for private long-distance users, but the 10-year or 1,000,000 km battery coverage is a very strong confidence signal. The European launch may also matter for Thailand because Hilux global production volume is closely linked with Toyota manufacturing strength at Ban Pho.
